Two police personnel were martyred on Monday after a speeding dumper truck collided with a police van parked on the M9 Motorway near the limits of Gadap City police station, officials confirmed.

According to a statement issued by Malir police, the police mobile was deployed for routine patrolling and snap-checking duties when it was struck by a fast-moving dumper travelling from Hyderabad towards Karachi. The impact of the collision proved fatal, resulting in the immediate deaths of Constable Wajid and Sub-Inspector Sahib Dad Solangi at the scene.

Police officials described the incident as a high-speed crash that left the vehicle severely damaged. A spokesperson said the dumper driver was taken into custody shortly after the accident, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him. Authorities are currently investigating whether negligence, speeding, or failure to maintain road discipline contributed to the collision.

Motorway police also confirmed the incident, stating that initial reports suggest the police vehicle was stationed on the roadside when it was hit by the dumper. Further inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.

Following the incident, rescue teams from the Edhi Foundation shifted the bodies of the martyred personnel to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Law enforcement officials and senior police officers visited the site and expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the line of duty.

Road safety concerns in Karachi have been growing in recent years, particularly involving heavy transport vehicles such as dumpers and water tankers. Authorities have repeatedly highlighted the risks posed by speeding and poorly regulated heavy traffic on major highways and urban roads.

Earlier incidents on the M9 Motorway and other routes have also resulted in multiple fatalities, raising questions about enforcement of traffic laws and vehicle fitness standards. The latest tragedy adds to the mounting toll of road accidents in the city and underscores urgent calls for stricter regulation and improved road safety measures.
